All About GCG
« on: December 07, 2006, 11:22:03 AM »
Basically, several of us live/game in the area but have found it difficult to get together on a regular basis to play these games we love. So, we\'re getting organized and going public.

Our goal is to meet regularly to play boardgames. Right now, we\'re looking at the first Saturday of every month, but that may change over time.

And just what are these games we play? They go by many names - Euro games, German games, strategy boardgames, TGOO (These Games Of Ours) - essentially they are boardgames that have a significant strategy or skill element, generally invented since 1990 or so. For those who have never played any, they differ quite a bit from "classic" boardgames like Monopoly, Sorry and Scrabble, for example.

These modern boardgames offer so much more than the older games you may have grown up with. If you want to check them out (and we encourage you to do so), check our calendar and come to our next public event!

Update January 2009
« Reply #1 on: January 02, 2009, 02:37:50 PM »
Hello Internet!

Just posting a little update on the Green Country Gamers. We have met every first Saturday since Dec 2006, so Happy Two Years Old to us! During the first year of our existence we only managed 3 to 5 people per session, but in 2008 we had anywhere from 8 to 15 people per session. Right now, we consistently draw a dozen every month. January will also see our first public mid-month session; if this is successful, we\'ll be meeting twice monthly from here on out.

We still play mainly Eurogames, but there is a growing interest in conflict games and wargames among those who attend; all games are welcome, however.
